About Londrina, Brazil

Located at the state of Paraná, South of Brazil, Londrina is undergoing a process of recognition as a metropolitan region and enhancement of the regional identity. As a central issue, the city has faced extreme climate events related to water, such as recurring floods, and INTERACT-Bio is supporting decision makers to bring the concept of Nature-Based Solutions to the table and encourage the recognition and implementation of such practices in the new policy. To achieve this goal, demonstration projects will support the revitalization of valley bottoms, demonstrating the potential of Nature Based Solutions as mitigation strategies.

Urban Water in Londrina

In the metropolitan region of Londrina, the focus is on tackling water-related extreme events as the region presents a strong water potential and has faced recurring environmental disasters related to floods in the valley bottom. Therefore, the aim of the map was to identify strategic areas of Ecosystem Service provision, to support and promote the connectivity of forest fragments, map critical drainage points and recover degraded areas through the adoption of Nature Based Solutions.
