Dar es Salaam City Local Biodiversity Strategy And Action Plan

Cities and municipalities must manage the tension between urbanisation and retaining and enhancing biodiversity and nature’s benefits. Dar es Salaam is one of the fastest growing cities in Africa and is situated within one of the world’s 35 recognised biodiversity hotspots.

The 2024 Dar es Salaam Local Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (LBSAP) is a municipal planning tool that facilitates integration and compatibility between biodiversity concerns and other land uses.

This LBSAP describes key focus areas, including the protection and restoration of urban ecosystems, livelihood support through enterprise development and waste management but, it also offers entry points for biodiversity protection through land use planning and resource mobilization for implementation.
