Puerto Colombia, Colombia
Marine Species Aquaculture Project
The Marine Species Aquaculture Project in Puerto Colombia seeks to cultivate sábalo fish within the Ciénaga de los Manatíes, generating 1.8 million kg of fish annually through six floating cages. Designed to improve local livelihoods, the initiative will create direct income for families, reduce seafood transport emissions, and stimulate secondary production of native crab species. By protecting 100% of the coastal wetland area used, the project supports biodiversity conservation while promoting sustainable seafood sourcing for over 110 coastal restaurants.
Project owner: Barranquilla Metropolitan Area
