Srinagar: Our City, Our Nature, Our FutureIllustrated Natural Asset Maps: A novel tool to communicate the importance of nature in cities
Aptly titled “paradise on the earth”, Srinagar is a city bursting with natural beauty. Surrounded by the Himalayas, in the Kashmir Valley, the city is crisscrossed by a complex network of natural ecosystems in the region including streams, lakes, rivers, wetlands and forests. The Jhelum and the Dal lake are the backbones of the local ecology. Dotted by Mughal gardens which boost the local biodiversity, Srinagar is a tourism haven. Adopting the local Kashmiri style of embroidery in its artwork, the illustrated natural asset map highlights important ecosystems and common biodiversity elements found in and around the city including protected areas like Dachigam National Park and the Zabarwan hills.
